Julia Ward Howe presided over the celebration of the Poe centenary held at Boston University on January 19, 1909, under the auspices of the International Poe Association. Among those who spoke, Thomas Wentworth Higginson had been in the audience in October 1845 when Poe addressed the Boston Lyceum.�
