This notice of the Boston Lyceum anniversary event on Thursday, October 16, 1845, states that "an address will be pronounced by Hon. CALEB CUSHING, and a Poem by EDGAR A POE Esq of New York" and that this will "be followed by Lectures on ... succeeding THURSDAY EVENING[S]" by the poet and abolitionist James Russell Lowell and the leading Transcendentalist philosopher of the day, Ralph Waldo Emerson, among others.
