Poe's Life in Boston
THE UNITED STATES REVIEW AND LITERARY GAZETTE
August, 1827
The first printed notice announcing the publication of Tamerlane appeared in this issue of The United States Review and Literary Gazette, a journal that was published both in New York and by Bowles & Dearborn, a Boston publishing house and bookstore located at 72 Washington Street where Poe may also have looked for work. Its offices one building south of the corner of State Street were right next door to the Calvin Thomas print shop where Tamerlane was produced.
