Poe's Life in Boston
THOMAS SIMPSON COOK (Composer)
"Nobody Coming to Marry Me"
Original sheet music
This popular ballad by the Irish composer was first "Sung by Mrs. Poe with unbounded Applause at the Boston Theatre" on November 4, 1808. Established during her three years in Boston as an admired singer, dancer, comedienne and one of the most promising actresses on the American stage, Eliza Poe became particularly acclaimed for this song that she first performed during her pregnancy with Edgar. She continued to appear on stage in Boston until about ten days before her son's birth on January 19, 1809, and she resumed her acting schedule just three weeks later.
